Summer Surf

Summer Surf | 30”x40”x1.25” each | acrylic on canvas

I love the summertime when the days are long.
During this time of year, I’m especially drawn to the ocean as inspiration.

Lately, I've been working on a series that I titled Summer Surf.
It’s inspired by the ocean swells, surf, and currents.

Pacific Rollers | 60”x60”x3" | acrylic on canvas

Currents /B | 48”x36” | Acrylic on canvas

I’m working with a color palette that goes beyond the subjective blues of the ocean,
bringing a range of warm and cool colors into the paintings as well as neutrals.

Rollers /A | 36” x 36” x 1.25” | acrylic on canvas

Rollers /B | 36” x 36” x 1.25” | acrylic on canvas

In this series, I aspired to create compositions that express controlled chaos
because that is how the surf feels to me.

Breakers | 36”x48” | acrylic on canvas

Currents /B | 48”x36” | acrylic on canvas

Currents /A | 48”x36” | acrylic on canvas

Both of the paintings below are larger scale (60”x60”x3”).
Creating one large circle with complex layers of brushstrokes brings the energy of the force of the ocean into these paintings.
